(Aug.) Directed by Frederick Wiseman, the documentary premieres at the New York Film Festival and chronicles conditions at the Bridgewater Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Massachusetts Judge Harry Kalus calls it “80 minutes of brutal sordidness and human degradation,” and bans the film from being shown in Massachusetts in January 1968. Another judge removes the ban in 1990 [1991].
